Seven reverb spaces, from the 1962 Schroeder algorithm to spring, plate and hall engines. Three knobs, freeze, tempo-synced pre-delay. AUv3 and Standalone. Schroeder is a reverb reduced to what matters: pick a space, set three knobs, play. It is named after Manfred Schroeder, who described the first digital reverb algorithm in 1962, and that algorithm is the first space on the dial.

SEVEN SPACES

• Schroeder: the classic 1962 design, four comb filters and two allpasses per side, with the sound of Schroeder 2.x.
• Spring: three dispersive delay loops with saturation and a gentle wobble.
• Booth, Room and Stage: plate reverbs on the Dattorro topology, from tight to wide.
• Hall and Cathedral: an 8-line feedback delay network for long, smooth tails.

Wet level is matched across all spaces, and switching crossfades the tail so there are no clicks.

FOUR VARIATIONS

Normal, Dark, Bright and Chorale reshape every space. Dark shortens the high-frequency decay, Bright extends it, and Chorale adds a three-voice ensemble chorus to the wet path. The dry signal is never touched.

THREE CONTROLS

• Mix: equal-power dry/wet blend, with a reverb bypass button on the MIX pill.
• Pre-Delay: 0 to 250 ms, or tempo-synced from 1/64 to 1/2 with dotted and triplet values.
• Decay: 50 % is the space's natural time, higher settings stretch the tail up to 3x, and 100 % freezes it while the input stays open. The Schroeder space keeps its 2.x seconds dial, up to 60 s.

AMBER LCD

The space and variation selectors sit on an amber dot-matrix display with a real-time spectrum analyser for each channel. Selectors and knobs respond to swipes and scroll gestures.

SURROUND READY

Mono, stereo, 5.1, 7.1 and 7.1.2 spatial audio layouts, with the spectrum displays fed from every channel.

SCHROEDER 2.X SESSIONS

Projects saved with Schroeder 1.x or 2.x load as before: mix and decay are mapped onto the new engine automatically.

AUV3 + STANDALONE

Run it standalone or load it in GarageBand, Logic Pro for iPad, AUM, Cubasis and any AUv3 host. The window is resizable and the whole interface scales.

Version 3.0 release notes

Version 3.0 is a full rewrite of the desktop reverb: seven spaces, four variations, tempo-synced pre-delay, freeze, per-channel spectrum displays and surround support, running as Standalone and AUv3.

OB-Xd is based on the Oberheim OB-X. It attempts to recreate its sound and behavior, but as the original was very limited in some important ways, a number of things were added or altered to the original design.
